Of course, the funny thing is that if one go with the original japanese version, this is accurate.

Mew's bleeding heart attitude was made-up in the english version.

In the original, the very reason Mewtwo goes beserk is specifically because Mew is calling him a cheap copy and is laughing at him. She doesn't fight back because of any pacifistic concerns but because she see him as a waste of time... which is why she also go ballistic when one of his attacks actually do connect.

Considering later movies, Mew's attitude is retroactively much more sensical than in the english one ; Mew does not take him seriously because, as strong as Mewtwo might be in this movie, he *is* small time compared to her. She could have vaporized him and all of his Pokémon with a single thought. At this point in the timeline, Mewtwo is nowhere near as strong as she is (although his power will someday surpass hers). And she know this, having met copies created in the past, none of them being anywhere near as strong as she is, even those created by fellow Legendaries. So in short, when Mewtwo proclaim his power to her, Mew knows he's a self-important ignorant and laugh at him.
